My thoughts on psychotherapy: The choice to pursue psychotherapy can be a challenging one to make, oftentimes signaling that we are in a situation that we feel we can no longer resolve on our own. Many times when individuals come for their first therapy session, they may identify feeling overwhelmed, confused, and frustrated with their current circumstances as well as worried about the benefits of psychotherapy. These feelings are normal and are welcomed as part of the psychotherapy process.
The core focus of my psychotherapy practice is change. Individuals presenting with complicated life situations can benefit from a present moment, empathic approach to help them to recognize and learn the cognitive, emotional and behavioral factors that have affected their unwanted circumstances and how they can change these factors in order to move towards a better, more centered life.
My clinical approach is integrative, borrowing from cognitive-behavioral therapy and person-centered modalities. With these therapeutic approaches, the whole person is addressed, not just the psychological, but also the health and psychosocial factors that contribute to overall functioning. In this collaborative relationship, individuals develop awareness of themselves and their values that help them to develop skills in order to work towards achieving their goals in treatment. Whether it is 2 sessions or 20, we will work together to help you achieve your goals.
